In January of this year, the newly developed website of the memorial site Güterbahnhof Moabit (Moabit Freight Station) went online. It provides detailed information about the history of this railway station as a starting point for deportations, about how the site continued to develop over time, about visiting the memorial site and about educational programmes and remembrance ceremonies.

Since 2017, the memorial site Moabit Freight Station has been a
reminder that between 1942 and 1944, this was the railway station with the largest number of deportations in Berlin. More than 32,000
Jewish women and men were transported from here to the ghettos and extermination camps in territories in the East that were occupied by the German Reich. The Nazis used this railway station because of its central position in the railway network, but also because of its closeness to the collection sites. These so-called collection camps were predominantly Jewish sites like the synagogue on Levetzowstraße that were abused
for this purpose. From there, people were pushed through the streets
of Moabit, for everybody to see. Hence, the memorial site Moabit Freight Station notably contradicts the German post-war legend that the Holocaust happened in secrecy.

On request, guided tours can be booked for the memorial site Moabit Freight Station. They inform about the deportations to the extermination camps, the resistance during the Nazi dictatorship and the history of Jewish life in the Berlin district of Mitte.

All guided tours can be booked individually for groups of 6 or more and last 1.5 or 2.5 hours. Dates and times are arranged by appointment.
Individual visitors can join the group tours.
