Up from the Sand

(Hi)stories in the centre of Berlin

We guide you through the new permanent exhibition “Up from the Sand” and tell you stories about Berlin, right in its centre. Who built the city? How did it develop over time? What did the district of Mitte look like in the past? And who owns the city?

While we walk through the permanent exhibition together, we examine the emergence and the development of Berlin’s Mitte district over the last 250 years. Surrounded by historic documents and old photos of Badstraße, we invite the visiting pupils to ask questions and answer them, including those touching on socially relevant issues like “Who owns the city?”

This facilitates a playful interaction with objects from our collection as well as a critical examination of our city then and now.
