During an exploration tour of the city, the participants not only improve their sense of direction, but they also learn quite a bit about Germany and the country’s society, history and culture. With the model of Berlin in the building of the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing as the starting point, we begin with the first questions: How has the cityscape of Berlin changed over the past 25 years and how is it going to change in the near future?

We explore the historic cityscape at selected stations: the medieval city wall, the historic quarter “Nikolaiviertel” and the Red City Hall. We present chapters from Berlin’s history in short scenes, accompanied by music and imagery. We wear hats from different epochs as explanatory props and coherent display boards bridge any potential communication gaps.

Those who understand English or German and can translate into a third language can start a translation domino. At the end of the tour, we all enjoy the panoramic view across the city from the rooftop of the Berlin Cathedral.
